The second day of workshops dedicated to improving vocational education in Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked by constructive exchanges, inspiring discussions, and concrete steps toward strengthening the connection between education and the labour market. The event brought together representatives from 22 secondary technical and vocational schools and 11 ministries of education, including school principals, teachers, and representatives of the ministries of education and pedagogical institutes, all united by the common goal of aligning vocational education in BiH with modern European standards.
The focus of the day was on the practical implementation of EQAVET principles, with particular emphasis on self-assessment as a tool for change, as well as the systematic collection and analysis of data to support evidence-based decision-making. Sessions were held to identify challenges and develop solutions within schools, fostering the exchange of experiences and the joint identification of best practices.
Following these introductory workshops for school personnel, over the next four years, the project will continue to strengthen the capacities of school teams from the 22 participating schools, focusing on the implementation of the EQAVET cycle, self-assessment, and evidence-based decision-making.
An invaluable contribution to this process has been provided by two organizations that have long been engaged in educational transformation in BiH: the Center for Educational Initiatives Step by Step (COI Step by Step) and the Center for Development Evaluation and Social Research (CREDI). Their dedication, expertise, and innovative approaches have been key factors in the success of this important initiative.
This activity was implemented within the project “Strengthening the System of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in BiH,” led by GOPA Worldwide Consultants with an office in BiH, and funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
We extend our gratitude to all participants for their outstanding commitment, ideas, and energy. Their willingness to engage in dialogue and cooperation demonstrates that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the capacity and the right partners to build a modern, functional, and sustainable vocational education system—one that equips young people with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful future.
