Today in Grude, the Basic Mentor Training Program officially began, designed for employees of business entities who will participate in delivering practical training and work-based learning for students at secondary vocational schools.
The training is conducted in line with the new legislative framework for vocational education, specifically the implementation of the Law on Secondary Vocational Education and the Regulation on Practical Training at Business Entities. These regulations define the conditions, methods, and quality standards for work-based learning, with the aim of strengthening the connection between the education system and the labor market and ensuring better employability of students upon graduation.
Mentors play a crucial role in vocational education, as they directly contribute to preparing students in real workplace environments. Through this program, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for effective planning, organization, implementation, and monitoring of practical training, as well as for providing guidance and support to students throughout their educational journey.
It is worth recalling that on May 21, 2026, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the West Herzegovina Canton announced a Public Call for expressions of interest from business entities to nominate employees for participation in the Basic Mentor Training Program. The call generated significant interest within the business community, confirming the readiness of employers to actively engage in the development of a modern and high-quality vocational education system.
By implementing mentor training, the foundations are being laid for the successful application of the new model of organizing and managing vocational education, strengthening cooperation between schools and companies, and improving the overall quality of vocational education in the West Herzegovina Canton. The long-term goal of these activities is to ensure that students acquire relevant knowledge and skills and are better prepared to enter the labor market.
This training program is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the West Herzegovina Canton and the TVET System Strengthening Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We wish all participants success in their work and in their future mentoring roles with students.
